output.icecast.vorbis( stereo = false ) fails to output mono as requested

Winamp and VLC both report a Stereo stream from there respective stream information code.
Winamp hears a faint output, on the R channel

VLC showed some audible anomaly's on 1 certain file being played from playlist() but was silent on another, when on the R channel
after 68 minutes or so, the stream went totally unintelligible *grabled*
